Angels of Assisi has recently started facilitating adoptions at the Regional Center for Animal Control and Protection. As of now, the RCACP cannot adopt out animals on their own (yet), but have allowed us some office space in the building to keep a desk and paperwork. With help from kind hearted staff and volunteers, animals off of stray hold are allowed to be seen by members of community, and walk right out the front door with their new families.

It's not always an easy place to be, working out of the pound. There is always a suppressed sense of dread that the animal you see one day, will be killed the next. It bubbles up more when you look into their eyes an extra moment longer, or notice the way certain kittens tuck their feet up, very proper like, giving themselves a little dignity in a very undignified existence.

And the sense of urgency never lets up.

Angels of Assisi is combating it with creative ideas on keeping animals out of the pound, like low cost medical services, working with people on ways to keep their pets, and expanding our foster program. We are dedicated to keeping our staff and volunteers at RCACP to help facilitate adoptions, for as long as they need us, and make it as easy as possible.

For dogs like Trixie, shown here as one of those dogs that got to walk out the front door, simplifying the process meant everything. It did to her new owner as well.

Until the time comes when there is no more killing of animals for space, "lack of interest", or treatable illness, count us in to help.

Simplicity is ultimately a matter of focus.
