Trooper Biscuit

In the middle of the Bedford rescue yesterday, a kind volunteer named Steve brought us this brave little dog, now named Trooper. All 32 pounds of him are covered in puncture wounds, abrasions, and skin infections. If you can look past the awfulness of what happened to him, you will find some very trusting eyes and a will to get better. Although he had to be carried from the car, he tried with all his might to stand up for us.

Dr. Kelly Farrell, who is visiting the area on vacation, spent 3 hours working on Trooper yesterday. He spent the night sedated and will be on IV's for a while. The sheriff and animal control have been notified, and we hope they can find whoever let this happen.

Thank you, Steve, for having a big ole' heart, and saving Trooper. And Dr, Farrell, you have always been special to us, and we appreciate you more than words can say.

A fund has been set up at Angels of Assisi for such cases. Please click here to see how you can help.

  1. Thank you for saving Trooper! What a sweet face. I'm praying for his speedy recovery. I hope whoever is responsible for this horrific cruelty is found and punished to the fullest extent of the law. We love you Trooper...all the way from Kansas! <3

  2. How can we donate and make sure it goes directly to Trooper? I have quite a few people willing to donate and was going to create a chip in on facebook to send you the funds but figured I'd ask here. Thank you so much for taking this case on!!

  6. Lisa - I cannot thank you & Dr. Farrell enough for saving Trooper's life. You were the one who made things happen in short order to get him in there & to the help he needed. Dr. Farrell is the person who has literally saved his life. You are both Angels in my book - as well as the entire staff at the Angels of Assisi.

I will follow up with local law enforcement. I can be persistent, but the scum who did this to him has to be found & prosecuted, which is in no way fitting punishment for this shameless deed. Please direct anyone who contacts you regarding the Virginia Dog Fighting Task Force to me if they need more information from my side.

I don't believe that Trooper found his way to our doorstep by accident. Again, thank you all for the fantastic work you do, not only for Trooper, but for any animal who has the good fortune to cross your path.

    Steve

  7. But in the meantime, Michael Vick still plays football and earns millions. What a great example for our kids!
I have boycotted the Eagles and the whole NFL, not that I matter, but so there!

  8. Thank you so much for getting him medical attention. Does he have a foster or a forever home to go to when he's released?

  11. Prayers for a speedy recovery & finding a loving home, Trooper! Thanks to all that helped this poor guy in his time of need. No animal should have to suffer like this. We need to find the perpetrators of these cruel acts & punish to full extent of the law. Speaking of law, we also need to increase the consequences for these cruelties as well!

  12. I would like to see the person who allows this to happen to have the very same treatment. I can be very cold hearted towards a person who would allow this to happen to a beautiful animal.

  13. Thank you Steve and everyone involved with helping Trooper, who has been so terribly abused! People see things and know things and they have to step forward and not let these savages get away with this! If anyone reading this knows who allowed this to happen, PLEASE contact the police! There must be other dogs facing this in the hands of these monsters!!! Thankfully Trooper found you, Steve, and vice versa! Hoping and praying from this day on, Trooper knows that he's going to be loved!! Best of luck, little guy! Prayers are with you! More people love you than you'll ever know!

  14. As a pitbull owner it breaks my heart that some people treat these wonderful dogs this way. That's why every client that has a pitbull and uses our clinic for their vaccines gets my "pitbull speech" to spay/neuter their pitbull. That's the only way to stop the killing and fighting of these wonderful loving dogs. My prayers and thoughts are with Trooper. Hopefully whoever did this to him will have to face justice one day. Deb loves you Trooper and all those like you who have not been saved yet.

  15. Trooper breaks my heart! Pit bulls definately get a horrible rep, mostly undeserved! My pit is the best dog I've ever owned! She is the most trusting, loving, well-behaved dog, and I adore her.

I must say, Dr. Farrell is AWESOME!! I had the priviledge to work with her when she was practicing at a local animal hospital (before she went to "Angels" and she is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met! To Dr. Farrell, thank you for taking time, while on your vacation, to work on Trooper! I'm sure he is grateful for the work you did on him! I know that under all his scars and wounds, he probably has a heart of gold!
